I don’t know about you, but I HATE having to set my clock forward every spring! But if I were to set my clock by the May Apples (Podophyllum peltatum) wildflowers, I would be setting my clocks forward again … and much more than an hour! When I was working the woodland a few days ago, I found 3 or 4 May Apples that were already emerging from the leaf litter! Last year, I found some in early April, but finding them with a lot of time still left in March is a new one! Here are a couple of images of the early “May” flowers:

In a subsequent post, I’ll share another wildflower that will be appearing very soon in the woodlands.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF 180mm, f/3.5 macro lens
  • Bogen 3221 tripod and ballhead
  • ISO 800 (higher than what I wanted to use, but the wind was pretty nasty at times)
  • Aperture f/3.5
  • Shutter 1/1600 sec.
