Living Right? Just Plain Lucky?

Today’s post begins a series of posts of images I captured during last week’s “Covered Bridges of Madison County, Iowa, in the Fall Colors” trip. I actually conducted this trip as a small-group workshop with one of my photography students. During the mornings, we shot sunrises over the covered bridges. During the day, we met for some Lightroom work, and at sunset we again shot at a covered bridge, staying there well into the night to capture the Milky Way and stars over the bridge.

On our first evening, we set up to shoot over the Hogback Covered Bridge. Although the Milky Way would not be directly over the bridge (a creek and lots of trees prevented us from being able to do that), we had a great time. And we actually saw several meteors zoom over us. And as the title of this post implies, we had some pretty good success! In the featured image today, I was able to capture not only the Milky Way, but a pair of Orionid meteors. I thought I might have captured a meteor, but not until a later review did I realize there were actually 2 meteors, side-by-side … sometimes, everything just seems to fall right in place!
