While I was waiting for the Yellow-breasted Chats to appear on the prairie the other morning, I had several songbirds drop by to seranade me! There was a male Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis):
… a male Indigo Bunting (Passerina amoena):
… a male American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis):
… a male Eastern Towhee (Pipilo erythrophthalmus):
… a Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum):
And although not a songbird, a Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) made a low-altitude flyover:
Another wonderful day on the prairie!
