A Strange Kind of Eagle

Upon arriving at the Mississippi River for my “Wintering Bald Eagle” photo workshop, we immediately drove down to the site to see what was going on. We were pleasantly surprised to find not only a couple of dozen bald eagles busy fishing right in front of us, but also a lone American White Pelican. I really didn’t expect to see a pelican on the Mississippi River in the middle of winter! But he put on a great show for us:

We only spent about 45 minutes photographing. After just completing a 6 1/2 hour car ride, we still needed to check in to our motel and grab some dinner. The following morning we were up, bright and early, and spent the entire daylight photographing bald eagles. I’ll be sharing some of those images in upcoming posts.
