Avocets

I arrived at Quivira NWR (Kansas) yesterdy afternoon. No Whooping Cranes were seen, although small groups have been arriving/departing over the past few days. Hopefully, today I’ll find some Whoopers. But I did find some birds I don’t often see … the American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana):

I’ll likely have a few more American Avocet images to share, after I find a little time to do some more editing.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens, shot at 400mm
  • Handheld from my vehicle, with IS “On”
  • ISO 200 (top photo) and ISO 400 (bottom photo)
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/200 sec. (top photo) and 1/400 sec. (bottom photo)
