Today’s focus is on another Missouri woodland wildflower that is currently blooming very profusely. The Phlox (Phlox divaricata), or sometimes called “Wild Sweet William” is a wonderful woodland wildflower to find, growing about a foot tall. The Latin name “divaricata” means “spreading” and this plant certainly spreads. Where you find one plant, you will typically find an entire cluster, presenting a wonderful display of blue in the woods. Here are a few favorite images I’ve captured over the past couple of days:
And I found a few Phlox plants that only had buds … but ready to burst out in more blue/purple colors:
I think you can see why I enjoy finding these beauties in the woods around the house! Hmmm, what wildflower will I feature tomorrow … maybe a yellow one? :o)
