Once our skiffs arrived at the harbor, we boarded and headed outside La Paz, in the Sea of Cortez. Our target? Whale Sharks!
The area just outside La Paz is known as a nursery area where Whale Sharks often feed with their young ones. Earlier in the day, we were told that within the past few days, whale sharks were observed in this area. Our mission today was to find and photograph them from the skiffs. Then, when we left La Paz on the “Adventure” boat (the next morning), we would again look for the sharks. And if found, we would dress into our wetsuits and snorkel with them!
As we left the immediate La Paz area, one of the first marine mammals we saw was the Bottle-nose Dolphin. Several small groups of them were swimming in the area. Here are a few images I collected from our skiff … hope you enjoy these beautiful marine creatures!
