As was the case last year when I visited Waterton Canyon, I again had some quality time with beavers in the canyon. This year, I had a pair of beavers active in front of my lens … and they seemed to hang around for hours! Here are a few of the images I captured of the beavers as they foraged around their winter food pantry they have been accumulating for winter:
Beavers start building their winter food cache (i.e., food pantry) as fall approaches. As winter ushers in and the water freezes, the beavers can swim under the ice and forage on their cached supply of willow branches. The cache in these images appeared to be a free-floating pile of willow branches, just a short distance away from their lodge.
