Continuing from yesterday’s post (Butterflies of the Prairie Meadow, Part 1), here are some more images that I have taken over the past couple of weeks at the prairie meadow not far from my house. Today’s post contains some unidentified specimens. I have some leads on the first 2, but the last one I still have no clue. If you think you can identify any of these, I certainly appreciate an e-mail or tweet with your ID! Also note that the 2 butterflies in this post are attracted to the brilliantly-colored Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa), which is in abundance in this meadow … makes for a very colorful visit!
This first butterfly is a Hairstreak. Not sure of the species … there are many species that are nearly identical to me! I have some more identification information coming and will try to make a better ID on it once I receive the info:
The next butterfly is also one that I have not yet been able to identify, although I’m leaning towards some species of Checkerspot:
And the last featured butterfly of this post is a moth, again unidentified. There are tons of these moths in the meadow right now. They do not appear to be attracted to the wildflower blooms, but tend to stay on the meadow greenery:
Again, any assistance in identifying these 3 are welcomed!
