Carolina Wren

The image in today’s post was taken last winter, in my front yard. The Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) is one of my wife and my favorite birds at the house. In fact, a few years ago, my wife put a round wreath with a stuffed scarecrow in it, under our covered front porch. Within a couple of years, a pair of Carolina wrens began nesting in the wreath. Each year, the nest got a little bigger … until it covered most of the area inside the wreath! The wrens even removed some of the little scarecrow’s stuffing to help line the nest. We often sit and watch them as the flit about our front porch, such welcomed visitors!

Carolina Wren, in winter

Now, let’s hope there’s some more nice snow this winter so I can work with these little guys again!
