Cascade Falls

While visiting Minnesota’s North Shore area, one of the stops was at Cascade State Park, which is conveniently located right along the highway that follows Lake Superior up the coast. Cascade State Park has several falls along Cascade River. This post features the highest falls, Cascade Falls. A short walk from the highway is all it takes to reach this first waterfall. I was really hoping to get some good fall colors around the river, but you can see that it was still too early … only a few colored leaves, here and there, were all that were found in this area. Here are a couple of my favorite images of Cascade Falls:

Pulling the focal length back a bit, to get more of the falls and adjacent scenery, here is another view:

I’ll share a few more images of the Cascade River’s falls, in another post.

Photo Equipment Used:

  • Canon 1D Mark III body
  • Gitzo 1258LVL carbon tripod, with Kirk HD Ballhead
  • Canon 28mm-135mm lens, (at 122mm for first image; 65mm for last image)
  • ISO 200
  • Aperture f/22
  • Shutter Speed 0.5 second (used Canon TC-80N3 Timer Remote Controller, to prevent vibrations from manually depressing the shutter button)
  • Solid, neutral density filter (2 stop) used to slow down the shutter speed
