Colorado’s Red Mountains

While photographing in southwest Colorado from Black Bear Pass, our jeeps took us to the top of the pass where we were able to get quite a wonderful view of the Red Mountains:

Quite an impressive view! The Red Mountains are a set of three peaks (Red Mountain #1, #2 and #3) in the San Juan Mountains of western Colorado in the United States, about 5 miles south of Ouray. The mountains get their name from the reddish iron ore rocks that cover the surface.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF28-135mm, f/3.5-f/5 IS lens
  • Bogen 3221 tripod with Graff Studioball SB-QR ballhead
  • ISO 200
  • Aperture f/18
  • Shutter 1/25 sec. to 1/30 sec.
