Foraging in Early Morning Light

Another post from my recent kayak outing to a local Missouri Conservation Area. Shortly after the sun was up, I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye. Turning my attention to that area, I soon saw a large Common Raccoon emerge from the heavy greenery along the edge of the lake. As it approached, it was more visible and I captured a few images. Here are a couple of my favorites:

While stopping on this large downed tree, he began scratching an apparent itch:

Raccoon are quite commonly seen during my early morning kayak outings. This guy was quite large, one of the largest I’ve seen in quite some time. I’ll bet he’s glad the lake is now filling back up after the rennovation!

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D Mark 2 body
  • Canon EF 100-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens
  • Handheld from the kayak, with IS “ON”
  • ISO 800
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/160 sec. (Thank goodness for “IS”!)
