Frosty Hogback

On the final morning of my recent covered bridge photo trip, an early morning trip to the Hogback covered bridge was filled with photo opps. Temperatures were in the 20’s (F) and there was a blanket of heavy frost all over the landscape! Fortunately, I had my macro lens with me on the trip, so I set it up on the tripod and began capturing images of the “field of diamonds”:

Oh, yeh, I was at the Hogback covered bridge, so I had to get a landscape shot with the bridge and frost:

The above image was another HDR image, combining 5 images. This was necessary to get a colorful sunrise sky, without putting the bridge in total shadows. Otherwise, exposing for the foreground and bridge would have resulted in a “white sky”.

Photo Equipment Used:

  • Canon 1D Mark 3 body
  • Canon 180mm macro lens
  • Bogen 3221 Tripod with Kirk Ent. HD Ballhead
  • ISO 200
  • Various Apertures and Shutter speeds

In a couple of days, I’ll feature another Madison County covered bridge, the Cutler-Honahoe.
