Fun Friday: Banded Pennant

During my recent wildflower photography in the meadow near my home in rural Missouri, I ran across a dragonfly species that I rarely see here, the Banded Pennant (Celithemus fasciata):

Researching this species, I found that this is a female, as the brown/black abdomen (with yellow spots) indicates. The male, of which I haven’t found any yet, have a blue abdomen (with the yellow spots). The Banded Pennant is in the skimmer family of dragonflies.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF 180mm, f/3.5 macro lens
  • Handheld
  • ISO 500
  • Aperture f/3.5
  • Shutter 1/1600 sec. to 1/2500 sec.
