Fun Friday: Flying Nuts

On one of my last kayak trips of the season, I noticed Blue Jays (Cyanocitta cristata) frequently flying overhead. Upon closer inspection, I noticed they were carrying acorns in their mouths. With winter just around the corner, they were busy stockpiling acorns for the winter:

Blue jays are noisy birds. Even with their mouths full of acorns, they still managed to “scream” as they flew past me. :o)
