Glacier’s Bighorn Sheep

I was beginning to think I would not see the Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis) that normally are found around the Continental Divide area of Glacier NP, but on my last day in the park, I was finally able to spot and photograph a group of sheep that were crossing a snow-covered slope at Logan Pass:

The group looked to be mostly juvenile rams, with one or two older rams within the group.

Photography Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon EF100-400mm, f/4.5-5.6, IS lens, at 400mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 200
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/640 sec. to 1/1,000 sec.
