Has the Hurdle Been Cleared?

Today is the first official day of spring. Day by day, spring seems to be transitioning into Missouri … and not a day too early! A few days ago, I featured some photos of a male Red-winged Blackbird singing along the boardwalk at Green Cay Wetlands, Florida. Just yesterday, I was working out on the “back 40” (of my 10 acres), cleaning and getting some garden areas ready for the new growing season. Meanwhile, my front porch feeders continue to be mobbed by a large group of red-winged blackbirds! It was so nice out yesterday (and today’s forecast is for 70F) that I just had to feature a few more spring-loving birds! On another day to Green Cay Wetlands, another group of red-winged blackbirds were busy displaying and enjoying the Florida temperatures, singing to their heart’s content. I can’t blame them!

My plans today? Well, after posting this to my website and to social media, I think I’ll start working on a new bird photography area. I’m planning on building a new area that will have food, water and shelter for some of my many birds. I’ll start by trimming up some trees, removing a few trees and brush, and preparing the ground for some wildflower seeds. Later in the year, I’ll probably add a small water pond and then a photo blind to the area and have my own outdoor studio!

Photography Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5 – f/5.6, IS lens, shot at 200mm to 400mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 500
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/1,000 sec. to 1/2,000 sec.
