King of the Birds

As I kayak, one of the most common birds I regularly see is the Eastern Kingbird (Tyrannus tyrannus). As I noted in a recent blog (“Don’t Chew With Your Mouth Open”), they love to sit in a branch that hangs over the water, or at the top of a tree, and wait for flying insects. When an insect comes by, the kingbirds will fly from the perch and catch the insects in mid-air. Here are a few images I’ve made of some Eastern Kingbirds perched near the kayak:
