Today’s post is a sequence of photos shot while kayaking at nearby Amarugia CA, near my rural Missouri home. In spring, I always look forward to seeing my warbler friends return to the area. This Prothonotary Warbler (Protonotaria citrea), as I soon found out, was busy collecting nesting material, then returning to his summer home to prepare it for the next brood:
Right now, I’m crossing my fingers that we have sufficient water for some more kayaking with my friends this year. Since our drought of a couple of years ago, time on the water has been little, as often there is insufficient water to kayak at some of my favorite places around home.
Photography Equipment Used:
- Canon 7D body
- Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5 – f/5.6, IS lens
- Handheld, from a kayak, with IS “On”
- ISO 6400 (Had to shoot with this high ISO due to low light (just after sunrise) and in order to keep a high shutter speed. Images had some noise, partially caused by underexposure of ~ 1 EU, which I selectively reduced via Noise Ninja software)
- Aperture f/5.6
- Shutter 1/1600 sec. – 1/2500 sec. (maintained high shutter speed due to the warblers’ rapid movements)
