From a kayak outing in 2009, American Lotus plants in bloom, with reflections:
American Lotus are great plants to find when I’m kayaking. Bees and other insects are attracted to the large while flowers, allowing for some macro photography (although a bit difficult from a kayak). These plants also attract beavers and muskrats, who love to feed on the tough stalks.
Photographic Equipment Used:
- Canon 1D Mark 3 body
- Canon EF 100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens, with Canon 1.4x TC, shot at 460mm (all photos)
- Handheld from a kayak, with IS “On”
- ISO 400
- Aperture f/8
- Shutter 1/800 sec.
