Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Today’s post is another bird I saw at my friends Pete & Ginny’s house a while back. This is a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus). Although we saw this female bouncing around the treetops, we never did see the male, although it was very likely one was around (it was early summer, so the migration through our area was essentially over). This is the first one of this species I have seen, other than early spring when we often see several of them at our feeders. Looking at my bird books, we are located right on the southernmost boundary of their normal nesting range.

Here are a couple of images I made:

Maybe one of these days we’ll see a nesting pair of these beauties!
