While mowing the lawn yesterday, I checked the bluebird houses to see if any activity was going on. Our resident Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis) were successful in rearing either 4 or 5 in their first brood, and have been busy getting the fledged youngsters on their way. When I opened the door, I was pleasantly surprised to see 4 beautiful, pale blue eggs in the nest! This is the second brood for this pair of bluebirds.
Yesterday evening, after the mowing was done, I took my camera to the bluebird house and took a few quick photos, then left the area so Momma Bluebird could go back to incubating the eggs. Here is a photo of the eggs as I found them today.
