When the “Great Cicada Awakening” occurred back in late May/early June, I was able to get out and capture a few cicada images while I was recuperating from surgery. I was under a “no strenuous activity/no heavy lifting” order at the time, so walking out my front door and photographing cicadas (handheld, without a tripod) around my gardens in front of the house was about the only photographing I could do at the time. And with 2 different species emerging from their underground sleep, I had plenty to choose from! Here are a couple of my favorite images:
I was really planning on spending some time to find a cicada that was beginning to shed it’s outer skin, then photograph it throughout the process. But I was just too tired after a short time, so I had to abandon that idea. :o) And yes, the cicadas were quite loud!
