Featured Information
Due to my recent move to the Lake of the Ozarks, along with the Covid issues, I am currently not teaching group classes. However, I am available for private individual or very small group, in-the-field teaching, where we can safely learn more about our cameras and our photographic techniques..

Nature’s Way of Recycling
During my short, weekend trip to central Kansas, I ran across a rather gruesome sight … approximately 20 dead Sandhill Cranes. As I described in my last post, this area was hit hard the night before, by an extremely severe storm. In fact, when the height of the storm hit, we were just driving into […]

A Whooping Good Time
As previously noted, I was very pleasantly surprised to find a single Whooping Crane (Grus americanus) along the Platte River. The Whooping Crane is a very rare and endangered bird, numbering less than 300. Through extensive conservation efforts, their numbers are rebounding (although very slowly) from their all-time low of less than 50 birds back […]

Sunsets and Sandhills
The Platte River trip started out slowly, with rain sporadically hindering us. But as the week progressed, we began receiving beautiful weather and some awesome sunrises and sunsets. In today’s post, I am sharing some images of the Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) as they return to the Platte River for roosting … and in one […]

In-Flight Beauties
As I’ve started the long, tedious process of editing the thousands of images made along Nebraska’s Platte River last week, I decided to share a few images of Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) as they flew by me on the way to the fields to forage during the day. I think you will agree these are […]

Fun Friday: Fun in the Cornfield
As I’m wrapping up my wonderful time on Nebraska’s Platte River, I’ll close out the week featuring one of the Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) I found playing in a nearby cornfield. Sandhill cranes migrating northward from their wintering grounds along our southern border, often show a lot of interesting behavior as they spend a few […]

Platte River Cranes
Yesterday’s post featured our encounter with a lone Whooping Crane (Grus americanus). I also took a short video of the whooper, as it rested on the Platte River with thousands of Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis). The video was taken pre-dawn, so the electronic noise is evident in the quality. But that’s fine with me … […]

Mixed Company
Today’s blog post is my first from the Platte River in central Nebraska. Yesterday was my first day of shooting along the Platte River and I awoke at 4:30am to get an early start to a blind I had reserved a spot in, along the Platte River. The weather forecast for Tuesday morning included the […]
