Featured Information
Due to my recent move to the Lake of the Ozarks, along with the Covid issues, I am currently not teaching group classes. However, I am available for private individual or very small group, in-the-field teaching, where we can safely learn more about our cameras and our photographic techniques..

The Art of Seeing
When you are out in nature, do you often miss some interesting details in the view in front of you? It’s easy to do. For some time now, I’ve been working on seeing things a bit differently … trying to identify exactly what caused me to take a double-take … looking for interesting details in […]
St. Mary Falls
While in Glacier NP recently, I did a lot of hiking. One morning I decided to hike the trail from St. Mary Lake to both the St. Mary waterfall and the Virginia waterfall. Today’s post features a couple of images I captured at the St. Mary waterfall: From here, I continued the uphill hike to […]

Alberta Falls
Well, Day 2 at Rocky Mountain NP was another “keeper”. The morning started out with very little elk activity at Moraine Park. After a short while, I packed up and drove to another spot where elk often occupy in the park, the Beaver Meadows area. Bingo! A very large bull elk was tending to his […]

Fun Friday: Not “(Quite)” What It Looks Like!
During my July trip to Glacier NP, I caught some flack from my wife. As we drove along the top of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, I was mesmerized by the many waterfalls that were active across the valley. At one point, I saw a good pullout and decided to grab a scenic shot of one of […]

Mountainside Waterfall
Yesterday’s post featured some Blue Columbine wildflowers with a waterfall in the background. Today’s post focuses on the waterfall from a different angle. The maroon wildflowers in front of the waterfall are King’s Crown (Rhodiola integrifolia), a rather low-growing wildflower that reaches from 4-12 inches. Each flower head is ~1 inch wide. Here are a […]

Fun Friday: Fresh Air in the Mountains
Today’s Fun Friday post is a “writer’s choice” selection. While maybe not so much funny, it is an image that holds strongly in my mind. While exploring Yankee Boy Basin, we came upon this wonderfall waterfall, surrounded by wildflowers, particularly the Blue Columbine: More wildflower and scenic images coming up, from Yankee Boy Basin. Photographic […]
Gooseberry Falls
Another waterfall that I encountered along Minnesota’s North Shore was Gooseberry Falls, located within Gooseberry State Park. This waterfall is a very photogenic one, and even has a cave at the far end! Photo Equipment Used: Canon 1D Mark 3 body Canon EF 28mm-135mm IS lens Bogen 3221 tripod, with Kirk Ent. HD ballhead 3-stop […]

Go With the Flow
Back in September, I traveled to Minnesota’s North Shore to photograph the fall colors. Along the shores of Lake Superior, Tettegouche State Park lies. The Baptism River runs through the park, making it’s way down to the lake. And on the Baptism River lies Illgen Falls. Here are a few images of the Baptism River, […]

The Cascades
My last post featured the wonderful Cascade Waterfall at Cascade State Park, along Minnesota’s North Shore. Today’s post features the same river, just upstream of where the Cascade Falls are located. Although not much drop in height, the water rushes so quickly among the rocks that this type of water feature makes some wonderful photography, […]

Minnesota – Glen Avon Falls (Re-post)
(This post originally published in August, 2010) The Glen Avon Falls, at first glance, seems like a misnomer. I’ve got to say that at first look, this feature was lacking in charisma to me! After all, there doesn’t seem to really be any “falls”. Rather, this unique setting is more like a placid little creek […]
