While visiting a Black-tailed Prairie Dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) town in Oklahoma’s Wichita Mountains, a rather interesting behavior was observed/photographed while watching a pair of youngsters that were playing around a burrow.
One pup was apparently continuing his playful assault on his buddy, who had enough rough-housing for a while. When the playful pup continued to nip and bit at the other’s hindquarters, the “I’ve had enough” pup began kicking dirt and dust all over the playful pup. It was not only interesting to see this behavior, but was quite amusing to watch! Here is the sequence:
