The “Rainbow Bird”

Today’s post features the Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus). Walking among the water pools at Green Cay Wetlands, I found several of these birds busy foraging among the shallows:

The last image shows the wonderful glossy irridescent bronze-green coloration of this bird, giving it it’s name. In the sun, it looks like a “rainbow bird”.

Photography Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5 – f/5.6, IS lens, shot from 220mm to 400mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 500
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/1600 sec. to 1/2000 sec.
