Them Li’l Pink Beauties

During last week’s prairie hikes, I was excited to see one of my favorite early summer wildflowers appearing, the Deptford Pinks (Dianthus armeria). The Deptford Pink is an annual wildflower, growing to about 20″ high, and is a native of Europe. It’s trademark is the 5 petals, pink with white dots. Very small, they are easy to overlook if you are not careful when walking the tall prairie grasses. Here are a few of my favorite images from last week:

Small, but powerful!
