Watch Them Teeth, Please!

While traveling the Mount Evans Highway, I stopped to photograph some young Yellow-bellied Marmots (Marmota flaviventris) that were running around, playing next to the narrow road to the summit. As I began photographing the young marmots, one took note and decided to “people watch”:

After a few quick images, this little guy ran behind a large rock and peered out to see if I was still there:

Shortly after, I saw a much larger marmot waddling my direction. I’m quite sure this was one of the youngsters’ parents, as it was intent on seeing what I was doing. And bold, too, as it came right up to me:

In fact, I had to stomp my foot to get it to back off. Just looking at those large, front teeth was enough for me … I didn’t want to chance getting a chunk taken out of my leg! Actually, I don’t know that the adult would have done that, but I didn’t want to give him the opportunity.  :o)
