Wildflower Peek-A-Boo

During my woodland walk a few days ago, the Bluebells (Mertensia virginica) wildflowers were playing Peek-A-Boo with me. I noticed that the leaves of the many bluebell plants were hiding many small buds, that could only be seen from a specific angle. Once I saw this, I maneuvered my tripod down close to the ground and set my camera to “look inside” this beautiful plant. Here are a few of my favorite Bluebell images:

The Bluebell is also commonly known as Virginia cowslip. The bluebells grow in rich bottomlands and along wooded hillsides. At the location where I photograph them, there is an area where the whole forest floor seems to turn blue, when the flowering is at peak! I’m checking on this area every few days and will be offering 1/2 day workshops, as soon as flowering begins. If you live close by and wish to participate, please let me know.
