Just a few minutes after photographing the feeding American White Pelican, I photographed my first Bald Eagles of the workshop. We had just arrived at the location and decided to check it out before checking into our motel and grabbing some dinner. These images were made within the first 30 minutes of being on-site. In this first image, bald eagles gathered in 2 trees that overlooked the river … a great location to watch for fish in the river. Flying around and “hunting” for fish takes a lot of calories … calories these beautiful birds just don’t have to expend. Consequently, they are always looking for ways of conserving energy. Here is one solution:
I’ve also included a few adult bald eagles that I photographed as they flew over the Mississippi River:
We have 2 days down and will be photographing for 2 additional days … we’re having so much fun and capturing so many images of our national symbol and their behaviors. I’ll be sharing a whole lot more of these guys in the coming days! Already thinking about adding another photo workshop to this area next year!
