Wood Duck Pair

Today’s post features three images I captured in 2008, at Amarugia Highlands CA (Missouri). Wood Ducks are arguably one of the most colorful ducks in the U.S. Photographing them, along with all their behaviors, has always been a favorite activity for me. In today’s post, I’m featuring a Wood Duck pair, both swimming together and then the two individuals bathing:

The male (drake):

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 1D Mark 2 body
  • Canon 500mm, f/4 IS lens
  • Bogen 3221 tripod, with Wemberly gimbal head
  • ISO 1600
  • Aperture f/9, f/5.6, f/5.6
  • Shutter Speed 1/30 sec., 1/200 sec., 1/320 sec.
