Beautiful Bull

One morning along the road into Upper Beaver Meadow (Rocky Mountain NP, Colorado), a nice bull elk exited the woods and meandered towards the road. Along the way, I captured these images as he rambled past, looking for some cows to start his harem:

And earlier in the morning, another rainbow appeared overhead, this time over the Upper Beaver Meadow:

  • Canon EF500mm, f/4 IS lens + Canon 1.4x TC, resulting in 700mm
  • Bogen 3221 tripod with Wemberly (Version 1) gimbal head
  • ISO 800
  • Aperture f/6.3
  • Shutter 1/80 sec. to 1/320 sec.

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens, shot at 100mm
  • Handheld with IS “On”
  • ISO 800
  • Aperture f/16
  • Shutter 1/50 sec.
