Fishing the Muddy Mississippi

Today’s post features an image I captured a few winters ago, while photographing wintering bald eagles on the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities area of Iowa.

Although eagle activity was slow at the time, a small group of American White Pelicans fished the cove near where I was standing. While photographing them, this pelican brought his pouched beak out of the water and this decent-sized fish was busy trying to escape the pelican’s clutch … no such luck!
