Late Breakfast

Today’s post features a Yellow-crowned Night Heron, patiently waiting for breakfast to show up. These images were captured in Ding Darling NWR (SW Florida) this past February:

Typically, I’ve found these birds to be a bit difficult approaching. But this bird was pretty tame … and probably pretty hungry, as he sat motionless for quite some time. He was captured along one of the roadside water “ditches”, a short time after sunrise.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon 100-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 800
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter Speed 1/10 sec. and 1/40 sec.
