While reviewing images for today’s post, I came upon a scene that continues to crack me up whenever I see it play out in front of me … what I call “the cowboy strut”. Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) often get into this stance where they tuck their head and seemingly bounce, from side to side, as they walk. In this image, an immature bald eagle struts toward a Snow Goose (Chen caerulescens) carcass that had just been vacated by another bald eagle. In the background, you can see a couple of muskrat huts, with an adult bald eagle sitting on one:
